Sometimes things occur that make me despair of the world we've created. It's not just the big things but sometimes the smaller , more personal things that leave me shaking my head in disgust. Now if you taking my MOD302 class over at FXPHD then this week's class may well be a bit late, which is something I hate doing. Let me explain why and hopefully you'll see the gravity of the situation.
2 days ago my sons school rang us up just after midday, now as a rule this means that a kid is either ill or has had an accident. Something no parents like. But we were not told the reason so off my wife went to go and pick Kan up and so she thought sort him out from whatever illness or accident had taken place.
When she got there she was informed that Kane was being suspended for 2 days from school for being bullied. Or should I say finally reacting to a couple of bullies that have my son covered in bruises all over his body. Although his life has been made hell by these 2 idiots, he did his best to obey the school rules and not react. So even though he was coming home very down, he didn't react. We had been telling the school about what was happening for an absolute age and they have ignored every plea for them to actually do their damn job and stop these couple of bullies. They even went so far as to elect the two of them to the 'junior school council'!
While my son is coming home covered in bruises and sometimes cuts, they have not just stood by complicate, but actually ignored what was happening. Whenever Kane told a teacher, classroom helper or the infamous dinner ladies (with a shared IQ of a house brick)....he was ignored, nothing was done. when he turned up one day from school without his shoes after they had been stolen by the same two bullies..guess what? yep nothing was done.
So was it any surprise that my son eventually snapped and hit the bastards? Now I'm not pretending Kane is an angel, he's a typical 6 1/2 year old with more energy than is sensible and yes he can drive me a bit nuts sometimes. He's an intelligent child who only asks that he can keep stretching his mind. So while Kane has been going through hell and we've been trying to find a way through things for him, the bullies have gotten away scot free.
Changing schools is an option although as I changed schools a lot when I was younger I know how that can sometimes result it even worse things as suddenly your the new kid who sticks out like a sore thumb. But why is it so hard for these teacher's and this head teacher to do their god damned job? Is it just that they see it s 'not what they are paid for' or do they simply not care? Is it because they are scared shitless of 2 problem families and what they would do if their kids were suspended? I have no idea, I don't have all the answers.
But to give you an idea of what sort of school the head mistress is running let me outline a few things that are 'banned' at this school:
- Games of cowboys and Indians
- Anything that represents anything that can harm anyone such as a stick being a lightsaber....
- any mention of armies or war games are instant suspension offences. also mention of any wars currently on going or hero's that have been awarded medals
- any 'overly masculine' games or behaviour is suspension offence. (flying in the face of over 2milion years of evolution!)
- All children must wear wellington boots if there is so much as a single snowflake on the ground...regardless of if this is practical for 1mm of snow or not.
- parents are not allowed to question teachers decisions...ever
- grandparents are not allowed anywhere near the school except on sports days in a specific area. (may coz they'd put up with a lot less crap from the teachers crazy ideas??)
...and that's just for starters...tell me this is right. Tel me this school is doing the right thing by punishing a child for daring to be bullied and finally react to bullies after all pleas being ignored from both him and us ,his parents? Is this is standard of schools in England at the moment? If so 1st chance I get we are out of this country for good, first and foremost for the sake of my kids. I will do what I must and what is best for my son, no matter who gets in the way. never piss off a parent ;)
Nice to hear when parents realy care about they're kid's. There is realy no universal solution for this kind of poblem.
ReplyDeleteBut there is only 2 things that will make most effect:
1) Kick some bullies ass (this is "job" for kid)
2) Change school (as you mentioned)
If you change his school and he gets bullied again, then I would suggest to take look at your kid, because there is just some people who attract bullies more than other.
Good luck and I wish you best in solving this problem.
Dear Wayne,
ReplyDeleteYes, the school sounds crazy. When did you first become aware of these crazy rules?
You are responsible for your kid's well being. How is it he was coming home with bruises and you did not find out why?
When his shoes were stolen what did you do about it? Surely this crazy school does not condone theft.
When I was in the third grade I had some trouble with the teacher. My mother sat in the back of the room for a week watching what was going on. After that there was no more trouble.
In my opinion, it is your responsibility to take appropriate action.
Best of luck,
Rob:-]
